Gilbertstone Quarry

S4
4mm Scale/18.83mm Gauge

The layout represents the small interchange facilities of a limestone quarry near the end of a quiet branch line in an unspecified part of the country. With limestone occurring in a wide band across the country, a variety of stock can be run at different operating sessions, from pre-Grouping to modern image.

The trackwork is built using the Brook-Smith method of rail soldered to brass riveted plywood sleepers with cosmetic chairing. The turnouts are operated using large can motors with integral gear boxes activating standard P4 operating mechanisms.

Buildings and other structures are scratchbuilt or modified kits, with the rocky scenery being created from plaster castings taken from various latex rubber moulds. Locomotives and rolling stock are a mixture of kit-built and suitable converted and detailed RTR models.
