50th Anniversary Exhibition

At a church fete,  c1960

Twickenham & District Model Railway Club was formed in 1961 and quickly established a home in Richmond upon Thames. We unexpectedly had to move to our current location in 2004 and this resulted in a loss of some layouts, but has provided the opportunity for new projects.

Our membership (approximately 70) has a wide range of interests and skills and our layouts and club facilities reflect that diversity. Members can take as much, or as little, from the club as they want. Some join to be able to run their trains, some prefer building layouts or realistic operation. Many members just enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts and drop in for a coffee and a chat.

There is a lot of expertise in the club; if you have a modelling problem, another club member usually has a solution.

  About the Club

We have modelling projects in a number of scales and gauges and at various stages of build or completion and the well stocked book and DVD library of prototype and modelling subjects is available for members to borrow. For those wanting to run trains, the multi-gauge running track provides facilities from ‘Z’ to ‘G’, including some for three rail use.

The clubroom belongs to a local Scout group and has an almost level access for members, two steps lead to the front door. The main hall has space for several layouts to be erected at the same time, whilst storage of the layouts has greatly increased by the provision of an external storage unit that contains wheeled trolleys to ease movement of baseboards.

No self respecting club is complete without a kitchen for tea making and snacks and ours gets considerable use.
